The idea for this recipe came to my husband while reading Popular Mechanics magazine. They featured a fried chicken recipe and he was inspired to fry up some chicken strips with it, with a few tweaks of course. The result was delicious chicken strips enjoyed by the entire family, so I thought I would share the recipe.
This dish is great served with mashed potatoes and salad, or just with french fries. They are good as they are or dipped in your favorite sauce.
What You Need:
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
3 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon each: cayenne, chili powder, ground pepper, garlic powder, salt, paprika
1 quart of buttermilk
2 tablespoons of hot sauce
Preheat deep fryer to 350 degrees
Mix all dry spices together and stir so they are well blended
Pour dry spice mixture into flour and blend well
Pour half of flour/spice mixture into separate bowl
In a third bowl, mix buttermilk and hot sauce
Dip chicken in first flour/spice mixture, then in buttermilk, then in second flour/spice mixture and place into deep fryer.
Cook chicken 7 to 10 minutes, or until no longer pink in the middle. Meat should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
Viola! Delicious chicken strips the whole family will love, and a cinch to make. Enjoy!
